Augmented reality is the newest thing blurring the lines between what's real and what's virtual with some very useful marketing results.
First, I'll explain a little about what augmented reality is. In a nutshell, augmented reality enhances what we see, hear, fell and smell in the real world. One way this is accomplished is by superimposing graphics, audio and other sensory enhancements over a real-world environment in real time using cell phones and video games. But really, you don't care as much about what augmented reality is, as what it can do for you and your business.
By using a very basic version of augmented reality in cell phones called "Layar," people can take pictures of their surroundings with their smartphones then view which restaurants are nearby and see things like ratings and user reviews for those restaurants. Marketers are even taking this a step further by advertising at the bottom of the screen what specials stores or restaurants you've just scanned might be running that day. Augmented reality is the ultimate way to stay connected and interacting with an audience that's constantly on the go but also constantly wired in at the same time.
