Twitter is the hot place to be and be seen - or so some people say. But how do you get into a build a loyal following on Twitter if you've never done so before? Let's face it - 140 characters isn't a lot of space to tell everyone about your latest product or invention, plus Tweeting regularly enough to keep people watching your every move isn't easy.
To help make Twitter more manageable for newbies (especially businesses new to Twitter), here are a few tips from Matt Silverman on Mashable. To begin, just following people you know isn't the way to survive in the Twitter universe like it is on Facebook. Follow people you regularly talk to, then start to follow other people that your friends talk to - by doing this, you can begin to build / enter a community you were previously uninvolved with and meet even more Tweeters. Second, don't follow a lot of celebrities or stores - they won't help you much if your goal is to connect to real people or get feedback / responses on what you've been Tweeting about. And finally, be yourself when you're posting and if at all possible be a mobil Tweeter - the most interesting things tend to happen when you're away from your computer, so the easier it is for you to share your exciting life, the more people will want to follow it.
