As you may or may not be aware, Earth Day is just around the corner. But we bet you didn’t know that this year is the 40th anniversary of the holiday. Efforts to make our lives more eco friendly by developing new ways to preserve the earth (think three R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle) have really ramped up in the last few years. We think this enthusiasm will help continue to boost the prominence of Earth Day and its message of environmental awareness. This year’s Earth Day is poised to be one of the biggest, most widely celebrated yet.
There are plenty of events going on in the St. Louis area to teach residents about the things they can do to help the environment, but there aren’t many dedicated to celebrating the earth. The newest (and most fun) addition to the calendar of St. Louis Earth Day events will be the First Annual Green Ball hosted by the Moonrise Hotel in the Loop on Friday, April 23. The event will be a celebration of all things green in St. Louis and proceeds will be donated to the Earth Ways Center, a division of the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Guests are encouraged to wear “creative green attire.” Cocktail attire that you’ve rescued from the depths of your closet, a vintage store, or any of the fashions featured in the latest environmentally friendly clothing lines are appropriate. Guests will be able to enjoy the music of the Ralph Butler Band and a menu of locally sourced foods prepared by Eclipse Restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine, Wes Johnson.
The evening is sure to be one filled with fun and even better yet, proceeds from ticket sales will be going to a good cause. The Earth Ways Center is a gem in the heart of Grand Center which provides practical information to St. Louis residents about how they can make their homes more eco friendly. Check out their website to learn more about the programs and tours they offer.
